The traditional technology for processing mother of pearl is adopted. Valuable and rare materials like pearl shell and noctilucent spiral shell are chosen and hand-processed into thin slices in shapes such as cicada wing, which is transparent and gives natural colors. The slices are then cut into dots, shreds and small pieces and planted into the painted surface of the body of the musical instrument to form well-designed pictures of mountains and water, flowers, birds or other patterns. The pictures so made is fine and delicate and shining and give off different colors if looked from different angles. The slices, shreds and dots of mother of pearl are magically changeful in color, providing unlimited imagination for the viewer.
