Shells with natural luster, mica, abalone shell and other high-rank materials are adopted and milled into thin slices, which are then cut into different sizes and shapes and planted into the lacquer-finished surface of the instrument. After that, the main body of the instrument is lacquer-finished repeatedly, polished, and carved and painted with patterns. The lacquer-finished surface is in dark and shiny color with the pictures on it distinct and natural and shining like pearl and jade though there is no jade on it.
