Pipa

The Pipa has a shallow, pear-shaped body which tapers smoothly into the neck.  At the top of the neck, the tuning peg box angles back slightly and culminates in a carved scroll. Four strings pass down from the pegs, over six large wooden frets along the neck and an additional 18 to 23 smaller bamboo frets which are glued to the soundboard of the body.
