Xun

Found in many sizes and shapes, the Xun is the ancient Chinese ocarina.

The Xun is usually a quiet, intimate instrument prized for its immediacy of feeling.  Its pitch is heavily reliant on breath support making it possible to bend pitches up and down as much as a step.  This is often used in conjunction with a breathy tone and wide, variable vibrato to express grief or even emulate sobbing.
